Anjana Sowmya is a celebrated Indian playback singer whose artistry seamlessly bridges the world of traditional Carnatic music with the vibrant energy of contemporary cinema. With a prolific career featuring over 150 film songs across the Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada film industries, she has become a beloved household name known for her emotive range and technical mastery.

Early Life & Academic Foundation

Born in the coastal city of Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, to Sri. Gopala Krishna and Smt. Sumathi Vidyala, Anjana’s musical journey was nurtured within a rich cultural heritage. While she demonstrated a sharp academic mind—earning both a B.Tech degree and an MBA—her true calling was always the stage. Her formal musical education is equally distinguished, holding a Diploma in Carnatic Music and having earned the prestigious All India Radio Gold Medal for her exceptional vocal talent.

Musical Training & Mentorship

Anjana’s soulful voice is built upon years of rigorous discipline. She received her classical foundation from Sri. Kakaraparti Veerabhadrarao and Smt. Peddada Suryakumari in Kakinada, while honing her skills in light music under Smt. Uma Rani. After relocating to Hyderabad, she continued to refine her artistry under the esteemed Sri. Vadali Phaninarayana, developing the unique versatility that allows her to transition effortlessly between complex ragas and modern film melodies.

Professional Journey and Musical Reach

Anjana made her classical concert debut at the age of 11, but her professional breakthrough arrived in 2006. While still a B.Tech student, she enchanted audiences with the song “Mounamenduku” from the film Classmates, composed by the legendary Sri. Koti.Since that acclaimed debut, she has collaborated with the industry’s most renowned music directors, including Mani Sharma, Thaman S., Mickey J. Meyer, and Anoop Rubens. Her talent has taken her far beyond the recording studio, headlining concerts in the USA, Japan, Australia, Europe, and the Middle East, where her innate ability to connect with diverse audiences has made her a standout global performer.
